Power Outage Affecting 2,000+ Customers Restored Following Weather-Related Transmission Supply Interruption

Posted August 7th, 2026

Grimsby Power appreciates the understanding and patience shown by its customers throughout the outage. The utility also recognizes the exceptional efforts of its operations and field staff, whose rapid response and coordinated actions helped minimize the duration and impact of the interruption.

A power outage affecting more than 2,000 Grimsby Power customers, primarily on the north side of the QEW, occurred at approximately 9:04 p.m. on Sunday, August 2.

The outage was caused by a weather-related impact on Hydro One's transmission system, resulting in a loss of supply to a portion of the Grimsby Power distribution network.

The interruption originated on Hydro One's transmission system and was beyond Grimsby Power's control. Upon confirmation of the transmission supply loss, Grimsby Power crews responded immediately and initiated switching operations within the local distribution system to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. Power was restored to all customers by approximately 10:40 p.m., about 96 minutes after the outage began.

Grimsby Power remains committed to maintaining a reliable electrical system and restoring service as quickly and safely as possible when outages occur.
