Grimsby Power is cautioning customers about a telephone scam targeting mostly businesses in our service area.
Multiple customers have received calls from someone claiming to work for “hydro” and demanding a pre-paid credit card or another form of payment to clear up an overdue account or be disconnected within a certain time frame. Recently these individuals have been able to produce the Grimsby Power phone number on the customer's caller ID. This tactic is called "spoofing". In all cases the customer has been advised to contact a toll free phone number with their form of payment.
Grimsby Power is reminding customers that it never solicits credit card payments over the phone or asks for wire transfers and does not have a toll free phone number.
Customers who have received a phone call asking for such a payment are being advised to hang up, and call the police as well as the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

The electricity distributor scorecard measures how well utilities are performing. It was designed to encourage utilities to operate in an effective manor and continually look for ways to improve productivity and focus on improvements of value to customers.
The scorecard includes several measurements that assess the utilities’ services. They include frequency of power outages, financial performance, costs per customer, how well the distributor resolves a customer’s concern on the first contact (First Contact Resolution), billing accuracy and public safety.
Please click on the link to view Grimsby Power’s 2014 Scorecard. To view the Scorecards of other utilities you can visit the OEB website.

Read Full ArticleStarting January 1, 2021, a portion of renewable energy contract costs will be funded by the Ontario government instead of electricity customers. This will lower electricity bills for large and mid-sized commercial and industrial consumers who do not participate in the Regulated Price Plan (RPP) or receive the Ontario Electricity Rebate (OER) by reducing Global Adjustment (GA) costs. Class A consumers could see savings of about 15 per cent on their bills, while non-RPP Class B consumers could see savings of about 16 per cent on their bills*. Actual savings will vary depending on customers’ location and electricity consumption. RPP customers who receive the OER, such as residential, small business and farm consumers, will receive an adjusted rebate percentage starting January 1, 2021, to keep the average residential bill flat compared to November 2020. For a temporary period of 28 days starting January 1, 2021, all RPP customers, including those paying both time-of-use and tiered rates, will also benefit from being billed at the off-peak rate for 24 hours a day, seven days a week. *In 2021, Class A and Class B consumers could see savings of about 11% and 12%, respectively, due to the Global Adjustment (GA) deferral repayment in effect for 12 months starting January 2021.
