2016 Electricity Distributors Scorecard

The electricity distributor scorecards measure how well utilities are performing. It was designed to encourage utilities to operate in an effective manor and continually look for ways to improve productivity and focus on improvements of value to customers.

The scorecard includes several measurements that assess the utilities’ services.   They include frequency of power outages, financial performance, costs per customer, how well the distributor resolves a customer’s concern on the first contact (First Contact Resolution), billing accuracy and public safety.

2018 Eletricity Rates

Grimsby Power Inc has filed an Incentive Regulation Mechanism (IRM) application with the Ontario Energy Board for 2018 distribution rates.  

The IRM adjusts distribution rates using a formulaic approach.  Any other change in billed amounts is related to the disposition of pass through amounts and changes in transmission rates.

Lower Time of Use Rates May 1, 2017

There will be lower time-of-use (TOU) rates effective May 1, 2017.  These rates apply to residential households and small businesses that buy their electricity from their local utility.  The chart below outlines the changes effective May 1, 2017.

8% Provincial Rebate

On January 1, 2017, your electricity costs will go down 8%.  The Ontario government is reducing electricity costs by rebating an amount equal to the provincial portion of the HST on your monthly hydro bill. That’s an 8% rebate for Ontario families, and on average will mean $130 more in your pocket each year.

 This is part of Ontario’s plan to help people with the costs of everyday living by reducing electricity costs. Across Ontario, about five million residential consumers, farms and small businesses will benefit from this rebate.

 Grimsby Power has until July 1, 2017 to implement these savings onto your bill.  Applicable savings will be retroactive to electricity used on or after January 1, 2017.

NOTICE Grimsby Power Office Renovations

Beginning Monday November 28th Grimsby Power’s main front office will be under renovation.   The renovation will last up to 4 weeks.  During this time an alternative side door will be open for public access.  Please call the office at 905-945-5437 as a customer accounts representative may be able to provide help over the phone.  The drive thru drop off kiosk will still be available for payment drop off.  Normal office hours will be in effect from 8:30am to 4:30pm.  All office deliveries should be dropped off at the alternate side door.

New Electricity Delivery Rates Effective September 1, 2016

On December 23, 2015 Grimsby Power Inc. (“Grimsby Power”) filed an application with its regulator, the Ontario Energy Board, seeking approval for changes to the rates that Grimsby Power charges.  The Ontario Energy Board announced Grimsby’s final electricity distribution rates on September 22, 2016.  The new rates are effective September 1, 2016 and are necessary to ensure Grimsby Power has sufficient funds to:

  •  Maintain current capital investment levels in infrastructure to ensure a safe and reliable distribution system.
  • Support operating expenses necessary to maintain and operate the distribution system, meet customer service expectations and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Provide appropriate staffing levels to maintain operational and regulatory compliance.

Canada Post workers may go on strike July 2: Helping you with contingency planning

Over the last few months, Canada Post workers have been negotiating for a new contract and are ready to go on strike on July 2, 2016 if an agreement is not reached. As a result, it has been recommended that no mail be sent after June 23.

Customers are still responsible for paying their bill on time even during a labour disruption. If you have not already, Grimsby Power is recommending that their customers sign up for e-billing to stay on top of their bills.
